About Me

Paula O’ Reilly is a Belfast based dance artist and choreographer.

In 2014 Paula ventured into directing and in March of that year she opened a one woman show called ‘That Moment’ as Associate Director for Pintsized Productions at The Crescent Arts Centre, Belfast. In the summer of 2014 Paula worked as Assistant Director and Choreographer for Stephen Medcalf’s production of ‘Orfeo ed Euridice’ for the Buxton Festival, Opera Series. Then back in beautiful Belfast, Paula had the pleasure of choreographing and performing in the finale of The BEAT Carnival’s Culture Night Parade and is now working on their St.Patrick’s day Parade. Having recently been awarded a SIAP from the Northern Ireland Arts Council, Paula is now, for the first time focusing on creating an exciting and evocative solo work to be premiered

Paula is a founding member of award winning comedy dance theatre company ponydance, and has toured the world performing at some of the most prestigious festivals, including Dublin Dance Festival, Absolut Fringe Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival, Adelaide Festival, WOMADelaide, The High Performance Rodeo - Canada, The American Dance Festival, Christchurch Arts Festival, Perth Fringe Festival and The Melbourne Arts Spiegeltent Season. Paula also works regularly with Belfast’s exciting new dance theatre company OfftheRails.

For their past four seasons Paula has been the Choreographer and Movement Director for The Wexford Festival Opera. During her time there and again working with Stephen Medcalf, their 2013 production of ‘Cristina, regina di Svezia’ received the accolade of ‘Best Opera’ at the Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards and ‘Best Rediscovered Work’ at the International Opera Awards.

Three fascinating facts about Paula:

1.) I make amazing gravy.

2.) I won my first disco dancing trophy at the age of 3 .....because no one else entered the competition.

3.) I know all the words to Coolio's 'Gangsta's Paradise

What is Paula looking forward to at #BCF15?

I can't wait to see 'The Gift', I love seeing excellent home grown work and it promises to be a real treat for all the senses and ages.
