Young at Art, Northern Ireland's leading arts provider for children and young people, is home to the flagship Belfast Children's Festival (6-11 March 2020).
Developed in partnership with Belfast City Council, Ulster University and Young at Art Events, Beyond Busk is open to 13-18 year olds who are invited to audition to be in with the chance of securing a set space at the busking festival and winning prizes including a recording session and the chance to perform at the Belfast Children’s Festival in March. The youth busking competition will take place at the Belfast and Jordanstown campuses of Ulster University on Tuesday 19 February.
Professor Rafaella Folli, Provost of Ulster University Belfast and Jordanstown campuses welcomed the competition; “As a civic university deeply rooted in the heart of the local community we’re opening our doors this mid-term break to host Belfast’s first youth busking competition, presenting a unique opportunity for young talent to practice in front of an audience, impress influential industry judges and be in with the chance of winning prizes. I’m calling on young musicians, dancers and other street performers to get involved, register/audition today and secure your set space.”
Northern Ireland’s up and coming talent will perform on a circuit of busking spots in the Ulster University Belfast campus on the morning of Tuesday 19th February and the Jordanstown campus in the afternoon. Online entry to audition is free via beyondbusk.eventbrite.co.uk
Building on the success of The Great Belfast Busk Off, event organisers Young at Art Events programme officer Morag Stuart, noted;
“Young at Art Events are delighted to come together with Ulster University and Belfast City Council to create a brand new and exciting event for young people. Beyond Busk has been carefully designed to build confidence, unlock creativity and connect young people to a creative pathway that could open up a world of possibilities for them.“
Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Deirdre Hargey said:
“This fantastic event will showcase the best young musical talent we have in our city. Belfast has a rich musical history with some of the biggest and best known names in the world of music learning their craft in the streets and venues of Belfast. I hope this competition will raise the profile of all the amazing acts and catapult them to bigger and better things. I want to wish all of the acts set to compete on the day a massive good luck.”
Judges will be from music, creative industries and the arts.
