Fighting Words Belfast has teamed up with Ulster University's Riverside Theatre to provide free creative writing workshops for primary school groups in the Coleraine area this autumn.

During a 2 hour creative writing workshop, children will engage with volunteer mentors and illustrators to give their imaginations a real work out and come up with amazing original stories.  We are looking for volunteers who enjoy the creativity of young people and would like to encourage them on their narrative journey.

The main volunteer roles are:

  • the creative writing mentor who helps young writers' ideas take shape on the page
  • the story maker who leads the group work, gathering ideas and teasing out plot lines
  • the illustrator who brings characters to life by creating scenes from the story

No previous experience is necessary. We are particularly keen to hear from artists based on the North coast who would like to get involved and can spare a few hours for this exciting new collaboration.

Volunteer training sessions will take place on Tuesday 9th October, 10am – 12 noon and Monday 15th October, 10am – 12noon. If you’d like to spark a young person’s imagination we’d love to hear from you. For more information, contact Marnie by e-mail on outreach@fightingwords.co.uk or by telephone on 028 9023 0660, or fill in our online volunteer application form.  We look forward to meeting you!
