Big Picture project
South Belfast primary school pupils have embarked on a #creativejourney to create eye-catching artwork which will form part of The Big Picture exhibition at the 20th Belfast Children’s Festival, March 9 – 14.

The Young at Art and Laureate na nÓg project involves 5 local schools situated in the vicinity of the proposed Belfast Hub area, and the project is further supported by Translink and Arts & Business NI. Pupils have been encouraged to explore the themes of ‘Family' & 'Home’.
“The Big Picture” is the legacy project of PJ Lynch, Belfast born illustrator and current Laureate na nÓg (Ireland's Children's Literature Laureate), focussing on the art of illustration and visual storytelling that celebrates children’s literature and the power of the imagination.
The Big Picture’ project encourages each school to produce a large artwork panel. The 5 panels will be on display at the Crescent Arts Centre during the Festival and Young at Art are also inviting the public to contribute to the creation of a sixth panel.
This is the third year that Fane Street PS, Donegall Road PS, Blythefield PS, St Joseph’s PS and St Mary’s PS have created special works of art to celebrate the city of Belfast and Weavers Cross neighbourhood.
A celebration event will also take place where the children will be the first to see their artwork on display and get to meet PJ Lynch.
Arts & Business NI are further supporting the project through the Investment Programme designed to support and encourage partnerships between businesses and arts organisations. Translink and Young at Art just picked up the Arts & Business Award for Cultural Branding at the annual awards ceremony on 24 Jan 2018.
