General Information

Festival in a Day, 2007
These new family pages are designed to give parents and children more information about how Young at Art's activities happen and maybe suggest things families can do before and after the festival to make it more fun.
If there is information you would like to see here, please contact us and tell us.
Are Young at Art's events safe?
Young at Art complies with all the relevant child protection and health & safety legislation and so do its venues. All staff and volunteers receive training, all events are risk assessed and the organisation has comprehensive public and employer's liability insurance.
If you bring children to an event, their supervision is your responsibility unless otherwise stated and they must be the right age for the event - a 3-year old in a workshop for 7-year olds using scissors is not safe.
Why do children have to pay for tickets?
World-wide few festivals are free of charge and then only with huge public subsidy. Young at Art receives some public funding and makes its tickets affordable. It always offers some free activities and does price checks against other family attractions and arts events each year. Future price checks will be posted on this site.
Events for children cost the same or more than for adults (they need more staff and have smaller audiences) but Young at Art fundraises to fill the gap between the actual cost and ticket. This is currently around £13 for every ticket sold.
Why does each event have an age range?
In the same way that children of different ages are given different text books and choose different TV programmes, artists develop their events to suit a specific age or age range. A "one-size fits all" attitude doesn't work for T-shirts and shoes and rarely produces children's events everyone can enjoy.
Young at Art ensures a range of activities for different ages and also welcomes babes in arms but not every combination in every family can be met all the time. It also recognises each child's development is different so parents must assess if an event is suitable for their child. Get advice from staff on the best combination for your family and friends.
